Frauenboxteam Basel
Image film for the female boxing team of Basel. Written by Linda Briem and Halil Kesselring. Produced by alivesea and boxteam-basel. Pitch: A few years ago, these young women boxers decided that they needed a place for themselves. Their former boxing gym did not have the resources to manage and cater to the growing female squad. They broke away from the old gym to find their own path without really knowing how and where. The women spent the first months training in parks and underground garages, or even at one of the girls' home! The bond between the women was never stronger and the motivation never bigger, as they felt finally freed from the burdens of the former gym. It was soon afterwards when they made a big splash at the Swiss Championships and won the title for 'Best Squad' despite not even being backed by a proper club (thanks to 'Boxring Basel' they at least had a licence)! When winter arrived, training outside was no longer really an option. Luckily, they found a somewhat run-down place they could afford. With the help of some friends they renovated the place. Today they not only keep competing at the highest level in female boxing but also successfully train hobbyists and ambitious boxers alike in their own boxing gym! During the production of this short film, the boxers won gold in four out of five weight classes in which they competed plus again the cup for best squad at the Swiss Boxing Championships 2016.
